Once abandoned for over two decades, this century-old granary is reimagined as a boutique farmhouse set amidst paddy fields and a serene pond. Designed through minimal intervention, the project preserves its original character while introducing spaces that embrace light, wind, and the surrounding landscape.
A verandah and bathroom were added with sensitivity to the existing structure, while openings frame views and enable natural cross-ventilation. Materials from the original building—doors, windows, tiles, and columns—are carefully restored and reused, carrying forward layers of memory and craft.
Rooted in context and culture, Kalam is not just a renovation, but a continuation of place—where architecture, landscape, and memory quietly coexist.
